CAMPAIGN UPDATE: Filling up the gas tank (Burton)

Dear Jennifer

As you get ready to travel over the July 4th holiday, I want to share with you an opportunity to support drilling for American oil. There's no doubt that you'll be emptying your wallet at the gas station, and I, like you, am searching for any way to fight against these outrageous prices.

I believe one way to ease our pocketbooks' pain is to increase domestic oil production. By increasing the supply of domestic oil in the market, we can control our access to the oil barrels and no longer rely on (and give our paychecks to) Middle Eastern countries.

Truth be told, many of my colleagues in Congress continue to block our efforts for more domestic drilling because they are worried that there will be consequences for our environment. I am sympathetic to their concerns, but am encouraged by technological improvements that have made oil drilling much safer for the environment.

Studies have determined that we have as much as 1 trillion barrels of oil in this country available if we just drilled for it--that's over 3 times the estimated reserves in Saudi Arabia. Experts estimate that this drilling could significantly cut the cost of gasoline.

If we are to find relief at the gas station, it will take a bipartisan solution, and I am working every day to reach out to Democrats and Republicans to find a compromise for America.

I ask you to join me in supporting these efforts. American Solutions, a non-partisan organization headed by former Speaker Newt Gingrich, is collecting signatures to be submitted to Congress asking them to "Drill Now."

Please visit their website and ask Congress to Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less. www.americansolutions.com

With your help, we can lower the price of gas.

Sincerely,

Dan Burton
Your Representative
