Indiana Toll Road announces donation to Indiana National Guard
GRANGER, Ind. - The Fourth of July holiday is traditionally a time for family gatherings, picnics and summertime fun.
For thousands of Indiana families, however, this will be a holiday spent without a loved one - because that person is serving his or her country far from home.
One Hoosier company announced a plan today to help alleviate the toll this takes on the families of Indiana's service members.
"Over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, July 4-6, a portion of every toll collected from every vehicle that travels on the Indiana Toll Road will be donated to the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund," ITR Concession Co. (ITRCC) CEO Fernando Redondo said today.
"The ITR Concession Co. wishes to recognize the sacrifices of Indiana's men and women who serve in our Indiana National Guard, and to honor the families in Indiana who await the return of their loved ones," Redondo added.
"It is our hope we will be able to donate $15,000 to the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund this year," Redondo said.
"On behalf of the thousands of men and women in the Indiana National Guard who valiantly serve our country, we would like to thank those who work for the Indiana Toll Road and those who will travel on that highway, for their thoughtfulness and their generosity to our Hoosier troops and their families," said Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, the adjutant general of the Indiana National Guard.
"Since 2003, the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund has provided financial grants to the men and women of the Indiana National Guard and their families who are challenged by financial hardships because soldiers are on active duty away from home," Umbarger said. "We offer our heartfelt thanks for this gift."
And in addition to the donation, ITRCC will be offering American flag pins to each driver during the Fourth of July weekend in recognition of the holiday, and to help drivers show their support and patriotism of our country.
