Rep. Baron Hill continues fight to lower price of gas for Hoosier drivers
Provides real results while opponent peddles empty rhetoric
Indianapolis - Just days after introducing a bill that would reestablish effective oversight of the U.S. commodity futures markets, 9th Congressional District Rep. Baron Hill was joined by legislative colleagues to discuss new legislation that would help curb the influence of energy speculators on gas prices.
In contrast, Hill's Republican opponent held a press conference on the same day in which he yet again failed to offer substantial policies to provide the immediate relief that Indiana drivers desperately need.
Delivering a message that he is hopeful someone will do something about the gas price problem eventually, Mike Sodrel offered little more than a pledge to Hoosiers that he will "get out of their way" when it comes to addressing the pain at the pump.
"While Mike Sodrel continues to concern himself with political posturing, Congressman Hill is providing the leadership that hardworking Hoosiers expect from their representatives," said Dan Parker, Indiana Democratic Party Chair. "The voters of the 9th District are looking for results, not more of the same, empty rhetoric."
"If Mike Sodrel is honestly looking for ideas on how to help lower gas prices, we would be more than happy to get him in touch with the Congressman's office," Parker added.
In addition to H.R. 6372, Rep. Baron Hill's bill that would reestablish effective oversight of the U.S. commodity futures markets, the Congressman authored the legislation, recently enacted into law, that raised fuel efficiency standards (CAFE standards) for the first time in 30 years.
Rep. Hill has also cosponsored bills that would strengthen penalties for price gouging, target those engaging in market manipulation, and supported a bill that would suspend shipments of oil to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and place that oil back in the marketplace.
