Congressman Baron Hill posts strong fundraising numbers

Opponent struggles to raise cash, pay down debts

Indianapolis - Congressman Baron Hill of the 9th District has released his second quarter fundraising figures, revealing that he raised nearly $300,000 in the last three months. He now boasts almost $1.2 million cash on hand, putting him in a strong position with less than four months remaining in the election cycle.

"Baron Hill's fundraising numbers show how focused he is on continuing to serve the people of the Ninth District in Congress," said Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker. "He is taking this campaign seriously, and shows no signs of slowing down."

In comparison, Republican Mike Sodrel posted a cash on hand total of just $379,358, a figure far less than expected.

Interestingly, Sodrel also chose to use a chunk of his meager contributions to pay down his massive campaign debt.  Instead of adding to the campaign coffers, the Republican candidate opted instead to spend a significant amount of last quarter's money paying for his legal expenses.

"Mike Sodrel is raising less than his opponent, he's spending more, and it's starting to look like he is running for office just to pay off his late bills," Parker added.
