TERRE HAUTE: Eighth District Congressional candidate Greg Goode today announced that he will be joining Republican Congressional Candidates from around the nation on a fact-finding mission to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). The purpose of this trip will be to scout out the lands that are currently under discussion for the environmentally safe exploration of domestic oil.

"Since I announced my candidacy for Congress is August, 2007, I have been calling on this Congress and my opponent to once-and-for-all lift the ban on domestic drilling and allow Americans to drill for American oil from American soil," Goode said. "I am now backing up this calling by visiting the area in Alaska which sits on some of our country's most profound oil reserves."

Goode is using his own personal finances to pay for the trip that will span from July 14-17. The trip has been organized -but not paid for--by Arctic Power, a grassroots, non-profit citizens organization based in Anchorage, Alaska. Arctic Power's mission as a non-profit organization is to promote the environmentally safe exploration and production of oil within the ANWR coastal plain. Also going on this trip will be Luke Puckett, who is running for Indiana's 2nd Congressional District and Mike Sodrel, who is running in Indiana's 9th District.

Speaking from his campaign headquarters in Terre Haute on Wednesday morning and again from the Vanderburgh County Republican headquarters in Evansville on Wednesday afternoon, Goode pointed out that gasoline prices at nearby stations continue to increase at over $4 a gallon.

"It is outrageous that this Congress has gone home on a campaigning break while doing nothing to alleviate the out-of-control gas prices that are hurting businesses and families throughout Indiana," said Goode. "ANWR may be thousands of miles away from Indiana, but I believe that I am at least doing what my opponent and his Speaker of the House are failing to do, and that is to take the first step towards true energy independence."

Goode declared his candidacy for Congress on August 1, 2007.
