Marion County Property Tax Rebate Checks Hit Mailboxes
Nearly $46 Million Headed to Taxpayers

INDIANAPOLIS (July 1, 2008) - Marion County Auditor Billie J. Breaux announced today the first wave of property tax rebate checks are in the mail and all checks are expected to be postmarked and on their way to Marion County property owners by July 7th. The total number of checks mailed in Marion County is 213,547.

"Our office has been working extremely hard to make sure the taxpayers get their tax relief check," said Auditor Breaux. "The average rebate check amount in Marion County is $215.41."

Auditor Breaux says her office will distribute a total amount of nearly $46 million dollars ($45,999,027.34) in rebate checks to property taxpayers in the county's nine townships. According to the Auditor's office, the rebate checks range in amounts from 8 cents to $8,526.

The rebate checks were approved by the Indiana General Assembly in 2007 as a property tax relief measure for property owners whose property contained a valid homestead credit and on which no delinquent property taxes were owed by the taxpayer.

Marion County taxpayers who have questions regarding the rebate checks should call the Marion County Auditor's office at (317) 327-4646 during regular business hours - Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or visit the Auditor's Web site at www.indygov.org/eGov/County/Auditor/
