Mayor Ballard Placing 30,000th Free Bicycle Helmet from Flanner and Buchanan on Lucky Kid This Friday
Indianapolis, IN- For a few years now, Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Centers has been donating free, top-quality bicycle helmets to children in the Indianapolis metro area. At this year's Minority Health Fair associated with Black Expo, Mayor Greg Ballard will do the honors of placing the 30,000th free helmet on a lucky child. He is expected to show up at the Flanner and Buchanan booth at the health fair between 5:30 and 6:30 (probably closer to 5:30 than 6:30, but we can't be sure) to greet the child and place the helmet on his/her head.
We can't think of a better photo opp and hope you agree and will be there. Becky Borel, long associated with this helmet give-away program, who works at the Washington Park North location, will be working, as usual, at the booth. Her cell phone number is 908-3910. She will have her phone on to monitor the mayor's appearance and to answer your questions. (Sherman & Co. personnel will be out of town on Friday, but you can contact us that day by calling 317-366-9558, just in case you need something. We will be in the office today and Thursday and can be reached through the office number during that time at 317-923-6775.)
We have arranged for a photographer to take photos of the event for historical purposes. Please contact Sherman & Company if you would like to receive high-resolution copies of those photos.
Flanner and Buchanan is a 127-year-old family-owned business with a long history of giving back to the community. The company has been donating these helmets at a variety of events, from Black Expo to the McMiracle on 38th Street , to other events attended by children, for a number of years. As a result, a good percentage of children throughout the metro area are safer from using Flanner and Buchanan-supplied helmets when they ride their bikes around our streets.
For further information, please give us a call - Becky can also be reached at her office at 259-1253. Thanks! Hope you can make it for this fun, yet very important event - and an incredible milestone!
