National Republican organization writes Mitch Daniels $725,000 check
Money confirms vulnerability, hypocrisy of campaign
INDIANAPOLIS - Confirming the vulnerability of his re-election effort, the Republican Governors Association today dumped nearly three-quarters of a million dollars into Mitch Daniels' campaign.
This comes on the heels of a strong fundraising report from Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson in which she remained competitive with Daniels throughout the second quarter. Polling has shown Daniels' re-election numbers to be consistently below 50%, despite months of television spots in support of his candidacy.
"Mitch Daniels has spent millions of dollars on high-priced consultants and flashy television ads, but voters aren't buying the spin he's selling," said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker. "Indiana is ready for a change of direction, and no amount of Washington political money is going to erase four years of broken promises and out-of-touch governing."
Today's donation was also notable due to recent hypocritical statements by Indiana Republican leaders regarding out-of-state organizations. The Republican Governors Association operates out of Washington, DC.
"I think it's time to take the stones away from Mitch Daniels and his friends so long as they're going to live in that glass house," Parker added.
