MAYOR NAMES NEW DIRECTOR FOR INDY PARKS AND RECREATION
INDIANAPOLIS - (August 20, 2008) Mayor Greg Ballard announced today that Stuart Lowry is the new Director of Indy Parks and Recreation.
"Stuart is beyond a doubt the right person to lead Indy Parks. His proven expertise will allow us to re-focus our thinking and mission around the neighborhoods we serve, honoring the consumers of Indy Parks," Ballard said. "Indy Parks will embrace the Peace on the Streets initiative, and we will offer our parks for programs and ways to make this city stronger, safer, and greener for today and tomorrow."
Lowry most recently worked as the Director of Family Programs at White River State Park. Prior to that position, he was the Director of Interpretation at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis.
"This is an exciting day for us," Lowry said. "We know there is a lot of concern out there about parks. We are going to take the time and due diligence to answer those questions. We are going to be transparent and truthful and be the best stewards possible within our budget resources."
The mayor was joined by members of his Cabinet and others from the community in making the announcement at Garfield Park on the plaza overlooking the Sunken Gardens.
