Obama's Superficial Indiana Campaign Strikes Again
INDIANAPOLIS - Barack Obama wants Hoosiers to think he is waging a real campaign in Indiana, but the courtship of Evan Bayh proves once again that this is a hollow effort.
"This is the most cynical, superficial campaign in Indiana's history," Indiana Republican Party Chairman Murray Clark said. "From bogus storefront offices, to negative ads, to the VP tease, we now know that Barack Obama doesn't truly respect Hoosiers.
When he thought the cameras were off at a San Francisco fundraiser, Obama said Midwesterners are bitter and cling to guns and religion. He continues to insult our intelligence and our values with his negative ad campaign.
The attack ads and the headline-grabbing events have not helped Obama in the polls. A recent SurveyUSA poll showed John McCain with 50 percent of the vote and a 6-point lead. Obama consistently has polled in the low-40s throughout 2008.
"It's very likely that the Obama campaign looked at the polls and said, 'Even with Evan Bayh and the millions we've already spent, we can't win Indiana'" Clark said
Clark suggested that shows Hoosiers are looking at his limited experience and record and not being distracted by the smoke and mirrors.
"At best, Barack Obama has been disingenuous toward Hoosiers," he said. "At worst, he's been manipulative. But he has underestimated Hoosiers and their practical view of what is and is not important in a President."
